[00] The Concept
A photography portfolio website to organize and showcase the artist’s best work.
[01] The Challenge
The Client had approached me stating that they had struggled with narrowing down and showcasing the wide range in their body of work. The key challenges were that the client has many different varieties in their photography clientele and wanted a website that wouldn’t exclude any of their capable skills. I aimed to work with the client to design a page that emulated the elegance and professionalism of their artistry and brand, and helped in hi-lighting their best pieces. Most importantly, the portfolio had to show off the artists style without distracting the user from the wide range of pieces being shown.
[02] The Research
We looked at several pages of photographers to gain inspiration. I also sat with production artists and fashion designers to review their experience when navigating existing pages. I took careful notes as to which features worked best and which style elements in webpages were distracting.
The site had to be very mobile friendly due to the fact that many of the users viewing the clients portfolio would be accessing the site from their phone on the go. Making a clear mobile navigation menu was very important.
Many users preferred a horizontal scroll rather than a vertical one when navigating the images.
[03] The Process
Card sorting was used in determining what categories would be used and how to group certain collections of work.
